Not just for sports related injuries
Sports Massage is for you if you have an injury or are in pain. No you don’t have to be sporty to have Sports Massage Therapy!
Clients who come to me for this range in age from teens to eighties!
Examples of things that can be helped with Sports Therapy massage are:
- Back neck and shoulder pain
- Work related pain – for example heavy lifting or manual work
- Poor posture
- General aches and pains
Sports Massage Therapy combines massage techniques with knowledge of anatomy of movement and so isn’t “just” a massage. It can also include:
- Advice on returning to normal activities
- Exercises to aid recovery
- Dry needling (acupuncture)
- Advice to prevent reinjury
- Personalised exercise plan to correct muscular imbalances and improve mobility
Sports massage therapy is not painful – sometimes a little uncomfortable when I am working on “tight” muscles but I don’t believe massage needs to be painful to help.
After a session most people feel energised and more mobile. A little mild soreness (like a heavy day at the gym) is normal the day after.
A Sports Massage Therapy Appointment
A typical massage begins with a consultation to check you can safely have sports massage and to find out what your treatment goals are. For example a marathon runner will have very different goals to a desk worker with a back injury. After the consultation a treatment plan is devised and I will begin the treatment which will include massage and possibly dry needling (acupuncture), cupping. The session concludes with some advice on self care (e.g. exercises to do at home, using heat or cold therapy etc).
I also offer a massage membership scheme which gives you a montly Sports Therapy Massage at substantial discounts over regular price. Click here for more details
